Amsterdam, Cris Toala Olivares

In honor of our capital's 750th anniversary, Dutch-based Ecuadorian photographer Cris Toala Olivares presents; "Amsterdam," an unprecedented, photographic tribute to Amsterdam.

There are few cities in the world where daylight is as special as in Amsterdam. Here the sunlight is reflected from the canals onto the façades, which are therefore illuminated from both above and below. The surface of the water, undulated by the wind and boats, causes the reflected light to dance, as it were, on the facades. Not every visitor notices this light, but it is this dancing light that has been captured by Cris Toala Olivares in a special and sublime way in this new collection of his photographs.

Cris Toala Olivares is more than just a renowned photographer. He is an independent storyteller who travels the world to make valuable contributions with his knowledge and network. He began his career in 2010 as a photographer. His talent quickly made him an esteemed journalist for big names like Reuters, AP and National Geographic. This led him to the most unique places on earth, capturing events that have gone down in history. 

The Amsterdam Canals
In 2015, Olivares teamed up with MENDO the successful coffee table book 'The Amsterdam Canals', which quickly became a bestseller and sold out quickly. In 2022, he presented "Living with Volcanoes", an independent project he worked on for more than 10 years.

Award-winning photographer and chocolate maker
Cris Toala Olivares has received awards for his work such as the prestigious Magnum Photography Award and the IDEAS Ted Award. He also won the Best Organic & Sustainable Award in Ecuador for his chocolate company Xocolate.
