Famous ballet dancers from the world's most prestigious dance companies, including the Paris Opera Ballet, London's Royal Ballet, La Scala Ballet in Milan, Stuttgart Ballet and the NYC Ballet Company, grace the pages.
Fascinated by the dynamics of the human form in motion, Matthew Brookes enjoys photographing athletes and dancers. In 2015, Brookes published his first monograph with Damiani, Les Danseurs, a portrait of ballet dancers at the Paris Opera. As a follow-up to photographer Matthew Brookes' Les Danseurs, published in 2015, Expression of Freedom delves once again into the wonderful world of dance and celebrates the togetherness and inclusivity this art form offers. Over the past 10 years, Brookes traveled across four continents for this grand photographic project, capturing dancers in motion within their geographical context - Paris, Milan, London, South Africa, New York, Brazil and Los Angeles. The dancers on display are representative of a diverse range of backgrounds and ages; lauded professionals share space with street performers.
