Booking 750 Years of Amsterdam: It's the city's birthday and we're celebrating big!

In 2025, Amsterdam will mark its 750th anniversary, a milestone that will be celebrated extensively. The city, which once began as a modest fishing settlement in the 13th century, has grown over the centuries into a dynamic and modern metropolis. This special anniversary provides an opportunity to both look back on Amsterdam's rich past and look forward to the future.

Amsterdam's roots lie around the year 1275, when the city received its city rights and the Dam was built on the Amstel River. This moment marked the beginning of Amsterdam's development into an important trading center. In the Middle Ages, the city grew rapidly, and during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century, Amsterdam became the wealthiest city in the world. The famous canals, which were built during this period, still today attract millions of visitors from all over the world.

As Amsterdam gears up for this momentous year, the city continues to symbolize the appeal of its canals, its ability to overcome challenges, and its ongoing commitment to cultural richness and innovation. The 750th anniversary will be a worthy celebration of Amsterdam's past, present and future, showcasing the unique spirit of a city that manages to continually reinvent itself while remaining true to its historical roots.

Festivities
Starting Oct. 27, 2024, a wide range of activities will take place daily. From small-scale neighborhood initiatives to large-scale cultural and artistic events, music performances, theater performances, sports activities and educational programs. Celebrations will begin on Oct. 27, 2024, with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Ziggo Dome, featuring performances by various artists, and culminate a year later on Oct. 27, 2025, in a grand birthday celebration. There will be joint celebrations with events such as SAIL, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon and the Kwaku Festival, all marking their 50th anniversary. The city will be beautifully decorated during this time, creating a festive atmosphere for all the celebrations.
